my last egg hatching didnt go too well and only ended up with 1 egg
hatch...this was saturday, at the mo it is very reliant and shouts
at us for leaving him in the box if he's been out for cuddles
etc.....was thinking of getting another but the one local only had
2 week olds and thought it might not be a good idea due to size and
clumsiness.....we could get a day or so old from somewhere
completely different but wondered if it's a must or necessary or
would it learn to be ok on it's own?......we have a chick teddy in
with it at the mo, although it;s not showing much interest in
it..?
thanks

It will do ok on its own, but yes it will be needy and cheap at
you. It may become very tame as a result. We always put a teddy in
with the singletons (prob makes us feel better!)
It is better for it to have a ducky friend as they do have a flock
instinct. It wouldn't have to be exactly the same age but similar
would be good, they grow so fast that difference in age can mean a
big size difference, 2 weeks is probably ok depending on the
breed.
I love ducks!

I have a single Call Duck called Daffy which was the only one
to hatch in a batch. She has a house and run in the garden with a
plastic snowman she sits with every night, and also a small
mirror as a "friend". In the daytime she wanders around the
garden chasing the doves, sparrows and our Westie. She is not
interested in the other Call Ducks on the other side of the fence
and thinks she is "human".
Goes for walkies round our caravan site and very easy to look
after. Don't think you will have a problem, just a friend for
life.
