Do you all rate this power for a bad infestation? In my ex-battery
coop I have red and northern infestation. I have lost 2 birds, I
have sprayed the birds, sprayed the coop, smoked the coop, powdered
the birds and they seem as infested as ever. The red mites stay on
them all day. Its heart breaking and i don't know what to do. I
don't have another coop for them. I have heard of a chemical that
goes in their drinking water. There is a long egg withdrawal which
is a pain as the little darlings are still laying away and I am non
certified organic but if it is the right thing to do and someone
can tell me where to get it I will of couse do it ANY ADVICE?

It's the Northern Fowl Mite that will be on the birds as red mite
lives in the cracks and crevices of the coop and only come out at
night to feed on the bird. Spray the birds with Johnsons Anti mite
spray as this kills the mites and the eggs instantly. If birds are
heavily infested remove the dead eggs by washing the birds a couple
of days later. Then use Frontline spray or dropper (for cats and
dogs) by spraying under the vent, under each wing and between the
shoulders. This will kill NFM and Red Mite. Use a good poultry
tonic to boost the birds up as well. For mites in the coop you can
use Poultry Shield by spraying the whole coop including all
crevices, nest boxes etc or use a spray called Ficam W and this
leaves a residue that lasts up to 3 months. Use Diatom earth in the
bedding as well. I use Frontline on the birds. Poultry Shield AND
Ficam W and Diatom Earth for the last 2 years with good success.
Red Mite is about regular management as you can never fully
eradicate it.

Diatom is a good mite powder to use - it is natural so you can use
lots, all in the coop, birds, and nest boxes and need to repeat at
least once a week until they are gone, and then prevent every time
you clean them out.
The Total Mite Kill is a good product to spray around the coop
and leaves a residue behind to kill the mites.
Chuppies is right, a good poultry tonic like LifeGuard is needed
to build uptheir health as they can become anaemic.
