I have a bully!

I have two 20 week old pekin bantams and have recently bought two
more who are now 7 and 8 weeks old. They are not living together or
kept in the same run but have been free ranging together for nearly
a month. One of my 20 week olds just wont leave the babies alone
and constantly chases them trying to peck at them-yesterday she
managed to pull out some of my little frizzle's tail feathers! I
expected a bit of trouble for a couple of weeks but she is getting
worse! Eventually, I want to intergrate them so they all live
together but it seems a long way off! I have been removing Amber
(the bully) and putting her back in her run ( a bit like the
naughty step for chickens) but it just seems to infuriate her
further and then she's on even more of a mission to attack! I'm
thinking of getting a water pistol and blasting her when she starts
to charge-what do you think? Any advice would be appeciated!

Hi Emma.
Welcome to Poultry Talk, nice to see you here!
Sounds like a troublesome bird you have there. I am wondering if it
may just be because of the age difference at the moment. When we
integrate birds/introduce new birds, we always do it at night, and
spray them all with some old perfume so they all smell them same.
Maybe an idea when you do try to integrate, and maybe at the
moment, it might be best to wait until the others have grown
more.
Sorry I cannot be of any more help.
Regards.
Jamie.

Hey! thanks for your reply! I'm not gonna put them in together
until they've grown more but I was hoping that by being together
in the garden they'd get used to them! I'm trying the water
pistol though-so far it's kind of working! I'll keep you
informed!
