Hi, I bought some silver partridge pekin eggs for hatching awhile back, only one hatched and he is certainly not a silver partridge. I have contacted the person I bought the eggs from but have not had a reply as yet. I was wondering if anyone on here could tell me what colour he is, if he is a pure colour that is. I am wondering if he is a wheaton, but cannot find any photos of wheaton cockerels to compare him to.

Thanks

A wheaton cockerel would be black and red so I don't think so. He could be a pale gold birchen....Still thinking. (He is lovely, the pale hackles esp.)

These to are the closest i could find to you little man! The color i believe is called mahogany silver wheaton! They are more of a random in breeding! The first boy is from a Salmon mom and a Salmon dad, other chicks from the same hatch were salmon like mom and dad but not him!! The second boy was from a hen that produced different color chicks each time( Pekin Bantams)! So yours may have been one of the random genes passed down!

Wow, beautiful. It is amazing the variety of colours that get thrown up by random genes. Pekins are good for that! I looked at the silver wheaton colour and ruled it out, I have never seen silver mahogony wheaton, I want one now!

Because they Have no red or black, more dark brown and Mahogany , Hence the name mahogany silver wheaton! LOL! I know they are awesome! I had a couple of Americana Roos that were those colors to! Random gene comes into play! if you can find a hen and roo with the mahogany silver wheaton gene you sure to get some! Or maybe just find some with the pattern as it is hard to tell the gene, you might be able to get some! Hard to say really as it is completely random! :)

If I was to produce this cockerel, then I would explain it as a Milliefluer hen, hence the breast of the cockerel & a golden partridge cockerel, hence the back & tail feathers.
But I would go back to the seller of the eggs & ask the question :- what breeds do you keep & what could the hens haves interactived with. Are they your own stock or did you buy them in??
Lot's of questions, that need to be explored but a fine looking cockerel.
So, as you have him - what are you going to do with him & what colour are you going to put him too??
Let me know, very interested as I have a few colour breeding programes going on.

Hi, I bought these eggs as silver partridge, but when they arrived one had SW crossed out on it so maybe it was a silver wheaton. The photos of the mahogany silver wheatons are definitely the closest I have seen to him in colouring. I have no use for this boy in a breeding program, unless I buy in some silver wheaton or wheaton hens. So if anyone is interested in him or knows of anyone with silver wheaton or wheaton pullets for sale then let me know please. I am tempted to keep him if I could get some hens for him and try to produce the colour as everyone who has seen him just loves the colour and as a consequence he is now a bit spoilt and loves being made a fuss of.

Thanks
