Anyone keep quail! I have two quail, had them for a couple of
months, yet i have only had one at the most eggs a day! Could the
other be a male, one has feathers missing from its head and has
hardly any spots on its chest and is a more of a light brown colour
on it. If it is a male could i hatch some? Some advice would be
nice :)

aaawww, quail chicks! My quail when i got them when they both were
6 weeks old (i did ask for female)and i have had them for a couple
of months, so 8-9 months old now? (how do you get 4 eggs a day from
2 female quail a day) But yeah, only on one egg a day! One quail
has a few feathers missing on its head, whether thats anything to
do with a male, female situation?! I dont know! But thanks for
replying and the help! :D

Hi We have about 50 quail and its really easy to sex they after
about 8 weeks old, just pick them up and turn them over the females
just have a vent and the males have a small swollen pouch to the
rear of the vent, if the pouch is squeezed gently a white foam will
come out near the vent. Often this foam can be seen in little heaps
in the cage anyway so no need to catch them. Hope this
helps.

If they are Japs then yep, your brown chested is a male!
I started off with quail before chickens.
Hatching eggs aren't expensive, try to find a local breeder, if
not look online. You could hatch your own eggs, keep the females
and they swap your male for an unrelated if you ever wanted to
breed from them :)
