Hi, my name is katt and i've been keeping hens for years, I'm also a volenteer for a group called 'Fresh start for hens' http://www.freshstartforhens.co.uk/ and every couple of months we rescue and rehome ex battery hens. I also have a fb page called https://www.facebook.com/funkychickengifts where I sell my chicken gifts that I make, my most popular thing I make are my lump hens and they now have quite a following of there own lol, I donate part of everything I make to Fresh start for hens.

My one is two years old now and for reasons I don't know, she is so very nervous, i've never had a hen like it, after all this time she still won't come too close to me. Its hard to say who lays what but I think I get about 4-5 eggs per week from her, as long as she's not too stressed out about something or another lol. how about yours? do they lay regular?

Well as you say Katt not too easy to tell, although i think they are, well two out of the three, might be.
They were picked on quite badly by the ISA Browns that i already had when i introduced the bluebells, and one of them developed the tiniest bit of a cough, and has started to leave the lightest brown and quite runny feces!
i don't think she's laying, but they are quite young, and the eggs i'm getting are obviously pullet eggs but as evidenced by me last night they are really tasty :) And yes mine are quite skitish as well. :(

My Bluebell was always quite highly strung, and huge! I guess they all have their personalities if you take the time to get to know them. Keep talking to me about the cough TC, We will keep an eye on her.

I'm no expert on chicken breeds but I here that alot of Maran types can be that way? I had a copper maran a few years ago and she was skittish, it took forever to gain her trust and even then she never really became a lap hen. She was at the bottom of the pecking order until we introduced a couple of battery hens and she then became the biggest bully in the playground lol
