Hi Steve.
Some breeds have a higher tendency to go broody than others, but you can try to encourage your hens to go broody by leaving some false eggs or ping pong balls in the nest boxes. Even their own eggs for a few days (as long as it's not to hot). Make sure their nest boxes are nice and private and dark, that way they will feel more comfortable.

You could take a bin bag liner and staple this above the top of the nest box entrance, making some cuttings in it, to form some 'curtains' and make it darker.

the thing is i noticed my banty seem to be wanting to sit but the other hens kept moving her i have now moved her on her own tonite own dark nest box with little run im sorta hoping this helps her so i can raise some ducks.

ive only had the ducks about 5 days n they have been laying outside but the egs been breaking so locked them in for first time last nit and they never bleedig laid thay have been laying every day

iv got my broody in a rabbit hutch shes got a dark section one side and a caged section for food and water with out the others bothering her.
my mums 2 orpingtons are both in the coop with the others but because the top 2 girls the others keep away from eggs

well ive got 8 eggs in incubator its just 1 of the poly boxes from ebay i borrowed it so have to turn eggs manually has any1 used one of these before and if so what succsess rate did you have

i have one of these and this week 15/20 of my quail eggs hatched so sweet very good incubator for a manual!

outa 3 fertile eggs in the poly box 2 hatched on monday and are doing well in the mean time i bought rcom king suro and have 20 duck eggs in it so hope they all fertile

i used a poly box from ebay for my first and got 2 chicks outa 3 fertile ive since bought thr r-com king suro ive got 20 duck in at present

im now onto my second batch in incubator 1st lot i got 16 hens 2 cock great eh
