A family friend is thinking of getting chickens. She has two small children who she wants to introduce to animals. What breeds should she get???? They neeed to be easy for beginners, friendly docile birds which dont mind little children stroking them. What would be better bantams or regular chickens????? THey would have the run of a fairly big garden for most of the day. She likes the idea of chickens which look stranger like silkies, would they be good for a first timer?????

Silkies, Pekins are very friendly docile birds in the bantam world. They are well knwn for there placid behaviour. Large chickens would also be good such as Orpingtons mine are so placid and nice and will hop onto my lap when they want to get stroked :) hope this helps.
