hi, i've been told by the allotment commitee not to use leylladii
cuttings in the run as it contaminates the soil, does anybody know
if this is true or are they being a load of old women?
no disrespect meant!

I wouldn't use the cuttings in a run in case the chickens peck and
manage to eat them. I know that Leylandii cuttings are poisonous to
horses if eaten, so my guess is that they could contaminate the
soil. Nothing grows around my Leylandii hedge where the dead bits
fall even though they are cleared up.

Most leyllandi are put through a chipper and used as ground cover
in beds and borders etc to suppress weeds. They also weep a
sticky resin when cut which is hard to remove as i know having
cut enough down in my time, Birds feathering would get in a right
mess if they came into contact with this resin, hope this
helps.
