Hi Gavin I will send you a private mesage with his email so if you
dont get it message me. You should def enter the chocolate
wyandottes, This is the show that Richard Davies is trying to get
the bird colour standardised and the more entered the better. I
will be entering two choc wyandottes. I hope he does get them
standardised. I have choc and black bantam orps too. My bloodline
is Rob boyd. who are yours from ? They are lovely bird to show -
very laid back. I am not showing them at the northern though
because they are in a breeding pen now. I am in NW leicestershire
near J22 M1. You are welcome to come over but feel it a bit of a
treck, if you like you can email me some photographs if it would
make you feel more confident. But I would say enter all your birds
and find out what faults you have to breed out in the line you
have, the judges are very good at being helpful as well as
positive. The judges at the show are really helpful and will give
you loads of feed back on the birds. Most times these breeds fall
on weight as they are underweight. I would weigh your birds and
compare the weight to the standard and if you need to help them add
weight on - type can look a lot better if correct weight. I will
now send you that email for the northern as well as my own so you
can send photos if you wish. Red x

Hi No your not that far away at all. We arrange a time for you to
come over after the 1st Jan as I am a bit crasy for time around
here until after this weekend I am sure Richard would be pleased if
you entered some choc dottes just to try and help numbers. Entrance
fees are £1.50 per class. My choc dottes are all his line as well.
message me with a date that suits yourself. Red x

thats great news Everyone will have different tips for you I would
suugest washing the dottes and orps at least two days before the
show because it allows some naturel sheen to come back to the
feathers with the birds preening themselves. ANy soap good as long
as you get it all out so most people use dog or cat shampoo but
some still use washing up liquid. It needs to be non sented so
human shampoo is not normally used as it leaves an after smell.
Make sure legs and nails are clean and trim nails and beak if they
need it. If you have durt under the scles of the legs soaking in
hot water helps to get the dirt out. dry the birds - most use a
hairdryer on a really low heat but I know some people have those
hot air heaters and they hang it upside down above the birds to dry
them that way. Most people spray the birds with something like
frontline to make sure no creepy crawlies on the birds but also so
it cant bring too many back. most people use vasaline on the legs
and face to shine the birds up. feed only grain for a couple of
days before the show as it helps stiffen the poo. Dont feed them on
the morning of the show but after they have been judged. bring
water pots with you in case the show does not supply as lots dont.
most people now give their birds a dose of tylan for 3 days before
the show to prep them for the stress of moving and during and 3
days after. buy some wet wipes and bring to the show in case any of
your birds need a clean. non scented. useful on the feet etc.
turkeys - dont know but would think similar ask any questions you
like. Red x
