I have been breeding poultry for years as a hobby, but not getting
on that well because I am alone. All the local poultry people I
know, and they are a great lot! are couples or whole families. Is
there perhaps anyone looking to relocate to more land? I am looking
for a tenant here, (1.5acres) or a working partner (hobby only) to
move with to a smallholding. I live in East Kent, quite close to
Ashford for commuting.

Hi,
I too live on my own, and find it very difficult to find out what
im doing right, wrong, good, bad! and thats only with a few
chickens!! However these sites are very helpful, but nothing beats
having someone beside you!
Its such a shame youre so far away. I would love to get experience
of running a small holding, as one day in the future i would love
to have my own.
I wish you all the luck in the world with your search for
someone!
Dawn.

Oh I'd like to move to a smallholding...I need some land for all
the desired breeds! Haha. I'm 18, unemployed and need a change (not
a practical tenant! lol), I think running a small holding and
perhaps making a career from poultry would be great. I think what
one needs to remember is that a lot of people have started with
chickens after they have moved in to a family home with their
partners/family, so it may seem that a lot of the time poultry
people are just couples. However, there are a large amount of
people how have kept poultry since their childhood homes etc or
have started in a new property that are also on their own. As Dawn
has said, the best of luck. Remember the old proverb "A watched
kettle never boils" perhaps someone will find you? :) Conor.

Thanks Conor. I wasn't thinking of making a career. It is strictly
hobby-'messing about with chucks.' I am at the moment trying to
create a new breed, but I only got a promising pair of sports last
year so this is first generation and a pretty mixed bunch. Some
(the rejects of course, though all are very pretty and should be
healthy and good laying pairs.) are for sale. You could be a tenant
Conor if you found a job in the area first. Ashford or Canterbury.
But anyway thanks for your interest. Gillian

I wish you the same Dawn. It's horrible being alone,
especially with an interest that you can't share. Feel free to ask
me anything if you have problems. I wonder what sort of chucks you
have? I must put up some more pictures of mine.

Well, i have five chooks. Babs - she's my fav and my longest
resident since june, i dont know what she is but shes appx 33wk old
and never laid a thing!, then 2 light sussex who i dont have names
for yet who i was told 'you might have an egg by the time you get
them home', havent laid a thing! appx 5wks ago!, and two polish X
frizzles that should be girls, but has decided to be a boy! They
are about 16wk old. You wouldnt believe the trouble ive had with

cockerels here, and i refuse to split them up.. but im stuggling to
find them a home.
I have some pics on my page, let me know what you think.

I have had birds for over 50 years and keep about 300 including
breeds I have developed myself.
If you cannot find any information on a problem, mail me.
My web page has a bit on about keeping chickens.
