After almost 7 years of poultry keeping, naturally, I have
encountered Red Mite on several occaisions, I have been battling
the little beasts with washing out the house, applying creosote and
powdering, however they return time and time again. Admittedly, my
levels of consistency haven't been the best, however, recently, I
am more than ever determined to drastically cut them down. I have
purchased Netex mite killer which contains Diatomaceous Earth (a
highly regarded method of killing red mites due to it's ability to
remove the mites' waxy coating and dehydrate them) however, I am
not entirely satisfied with it's results - perhaps I will really
have to work at it! Has anyone used this particular product, if so,
how did it work out with you? I was researching various methods to
deal with the problem, particularly home remedies that kill and do
not allow the immune system of the mites to become stronger and
resilient as it does with many chemicals. One method I found
happened to be white vinegar (I imagine the acidity breaks down the
mite) and was wondering if any of you had tried this? The person
who uses this method said it works very well, but I wanted a few
more opinions. Also, if any of you use another form of "home
remedy" it would be great to hear you experiences. Thanks, Conor.

HI Chuckie, Thought you might know of a potion for this problem. I
can understand the citronella because of the smell, methylated
spirts because of the fumes, washing up liquid because it,s a
detergent, vinegar because it,s an acid but the mug of tea, is that
for you? HA, HA, Let me know if it works.
