Hi there,
I'd just like your opinions on how you all catch your chickens. I
hate chasing them, but i really want to get to the point where
theyre happy being caught. I have tried taking them out of their
bed, but unless i leave it quite late, they're all still awake! I
can get two of mine to hop up onto my knee for dried worms, but
only done that a couple of times, and im so chuffed they do that, i
dont want to upset them by catching them!
Anyway, its great talking chicken to you all!

My technique involves roping in the help of one or two others and
opening the coop in the morning a little. As the birds come out
they are deftly nabbed by the people waiting and the coop closed.
They are dusted, inspected etc, then the process repeated.
Much easier than chasing around after them like a headless
chicken....that was a joke in VERY bad taste....I'm veggy and
would NEVER dream of beheading or otherwise killing my precious
birds.

Easiest way is to just open the door to the coop and grab them off
their perch one at a time. Alternatively use a butterfly/fish net
with a padded collar or you can get a special 'crook' which is
usedto hook them round the neck and no it doesn't hurt them.

when dusting or handling i get a piece of plywood or netting and
walk them into a corner then lean over and pick the bird up and
treat it no fuss no stress to me or the birds i use the same
method when catching chicks when i m moving them to the growing
quarters most of all there s no panic and u can do it without any
help and the person doing it is the same one that they see every
day good luck TC
