I live in Hertfordshire, I'm new to poultry keeping and will be
collecting my very first chooks this Saturday. I've been busy
getting their des res together and have purchased an Omet cube with
run extension! I've been on a chicken keeping course, however, I'm
finding it very hard to locate woodchips for the flooring in my
run. My cube and run will be staying put. At the moment it's just
soil (not grass) on the ground of the run...is this o.k.? what do
you guys recommend? I will be allowing the chooks to free range on
the grass occasionally too.

Hi Angel.
Welcome to Poultry Talk. com. We hope you will enjoy being a
member.
Fantastic to hear you are getting your first chickens on Saturday!
Sounds as if you have been doing some good preparations already
which is great to hear.
I would of thought a good garden centre would have hardwood wood
chips, which are the ones you want for poultry runs as some others
can cause spores and go mouldy. I know you can purchase some here
if you are still having difficulty:

I would of thought it would be okay as long as you provide a nice
thick layer, but you will need to change them every so often. Never
myself had a fixed 'Cube' before, but I don't see it being a
problem.
Any more questions you have please do post on the forums.
We look forward to hearing how you get on with your birds and I am
sure you will be addicted soon!
If you need any more help with the network or have any feedback,
please drop us an email: mail@poultrytalk.com
Thank you.
Regards,
Jamie.
