Hi there.
Welcome to the new Poultry Talk. A free to join and use Forum and
network.
It is so easy to meet new people interested in poultry from around
the globe and stay in touch using Poultry Talk. I really do hope
this site will benefit you. Although it does contain many features,
I think it maintains a clean look and easy to use/navigate
feel.
If you have any feedback, or ways in which I could improve the site
please do post them or let me know, and if you need any help, just
click the 'Help' link below your account name or ask myself.
I do have further plans for the site in the future and to enable it
to grow we need to spread the word. I am of course doing this, but
if you are able to tell your friends, provide a link to us or tell
anyone you think would be interested, this would help. Thank
you.
I look forward to seeing you on here, please do introduce yourself!

Hi all recently joined and would like to know if anyone else lives
in Wales? I live in South Wales and like all chickens, have a
fairly mixed bunch at moment, might get more Pekins or Wyandottes.

Hi Annabelle.
Welcome to Poultry Talk. com. Not from Wales myself, think we may
have a couple of members from Wales, not sure how active they are
on the network yet though.
I do have a very soft spot for pekins, use to keep them in four
colours, they are such docile and friendly little birds, now widely
available in soo many pretty colours, along with the
Wyandottes.
Do keep us updated on how you get on with you birds.
Look forward to hearing more.
Regards,
Jamie.

Yep thats how we started, got some ex free range chickens - loved
em - got some more lol! then got Galagher the guard goose, shortly
followed by his missus Gladys. Then we got Burdie the marran as a
wee little thing ( about the size of a tennis ball with legs) - he
is now our resident stud and all round show off lol. Then recently
we got three cherry valley ducks who will hopefully be joined by Mr
Duck at the weekend! The daughter thinks its all fab she spends
most of her time walking round with Burdie or some one tucked under
her arm! My sons just think ive lost the plot and the OH just goes
with the flow now - he has given up trying to persuade me to take
up normal past times like house work! lol

Hi I'm new to keeping chickens, so new I haven't got any hens yet,
still building there hotel.
So I could do with some advice on the number of large hens i can
keep in the space i have avalable please,
so far they have a shed five foot six by five foot six for there
roost and nesting space and a scratching shed will be five foot six
by therteen foot when its finished.
I can only find info for open runs not a scratching shed, and that
gose from ten square foot per hen to forty square foot per hen !!!
the later would allow for one and a half hens.
I hope someone will have an ansewer, befor i get cried away with
all the breeds i like and want to keep lol
( too much choice and limeted space )
thank you
Paul

Hi! There! I currently have 8 Straight run chicks. I have reared
baby chicks before but never as straight run, how do i tell the
difference from a cockerel and a hen when they are so young, what
is the best age to start looking for a difference!?

Hi there I am new to this, I have just been given as a birthday
gift 2 beautiful 17week old Isa Warrens and I want to get it right,
I live in East Lothian in Scotland, I have slabbed where the coop
sits and at the moment they are on a gravel run but have fenced off
part of the garden for them, so they will have some grass I only
have had them 2 days so they are still getting used to me and their
new surroundings any advice would be gratefully received.

Hi, Sounds like your doing everything right :) I'm sure pretty soon
you will end up getting more hens. Chicken keeping very soon turns
into an obsession!

Hey, I'm new here. I got my hens just a few days ago and they're
still settling in. Just came on here in case I ever needed any help
with them, and help other people with their hens as well.

Hi there
I am new to this so winging it at the moment.
I have had chickens for a year now but at the moment I am having
problems with them. They have got colds and it is going round and
round. I was wondering if it is the water I am using. I have to get
it out of a water tank in the field where I keep them as there is
no tap, and pigeons poo in the water. I clean it out but as soon as
i clean it, they poo in it again. What I would like to know is if
anyone has tried using viratec-p in the drinking water and if it
will stereilise the water.

Hi Byppy You sound as if you are doing OK. Just
wondered how fox proof they are? You are shutting them in the coop
at night? Also foxes roam in the day as well. You need six foot
high wire to be safe.

Hi - I live in the north of Scotland on the lovely Moray Firth. I
live with my husband, 2 cats, 140 hens and cockerels and about 30
quail. I try and just have rare breeds but inevitably a few others
creep in. We are quite isolated, surrounded by fields, hence being
able to keep lots of cockerels. Busy at the moment with lots of
chicks - three broodies sitting and 2 incubators full - all due
this week.
Love to talk to people who love poultry and don't get bored with me
going on and on about hens !!!!!
3 years ago I started showing - I usually show some birds twice a
year and have done quite well so far. Cockerels have a habit of
losing their tail feathers a week before showing !!!

Hi Sunflower.
A warm welcome on board to the Poultry Talk. com network. We hope
you will enjoy being a member here.
Sounds like you live in a lovely part of the country. Must be nice
to live in such a rural area and there for have no cockerel
restrictions. How I miss not having a cockerel soo much!
Sounds like you have a nice 'flock' of birds. I look forward to
hearing more about them.
Good luck with your showing, our new Shows and events section, will
be online soon. Maybe we will meet you at the National Poultry show
in November?
I am sorry your post has not been replied to, originally this post
was designed as a welcome to the network from myself, when it first
started.
Regards
Jamie.
