Hello All,
Would value opinions, have recently bought 3 pekins but
unfortunately 1 cockeral which will have a new home when he is old
enough to cope with friends ladies-always a challenge!
My dilemma is that the chicks-about 5-6 weeks were for my daughters
to raise during summer ,and whilst she understands that neighbours
will not be happy ,she is disappointed that chick will not stay. Do
I get another couple now or wait ?
Thankyou

It's a difficult one, pekins have lovely characters, and the
cockerels can be quite charming! Can you swap the trio for 3 female
growers? Alternatively you can see how the young lad goes, we have
an ancient pekin cockerel called Priscilla, he has a lovely crow,
quite quiet too.
Hope you can work something out, what a lovely idea for your
children though!

Thankyou would love to keep him as he is so lovely but neighbours
would not tolerate-why do people move to countryand moan about
cockerals and slurry!?Good learning curve for kids and at least
they will still be able to see him.

I don't see why one cockerel should cause problems with neighbours.
Cover any windows in the coop and hopefully it won't be able to
crow with the sunrise. Most neighbours will complain if they're
being woken up at 5a.m. , but crowing during
the day shouldn't cause a bother. The other thing you could do is
raise the perch in the coop so the cockerel can't throw its head up
to crow during the early hours.
If anyone complains give them some nice fresh eggs - I do this on a
regular basis and gained some strong supporters for keeping
chickens at home.
