Hi everyone.
I thought this could be a very interesting topic to discuss.
I am sure we all have different people/exhibitors/breeders or maybe
even clubs that have encouraged/inspired you to keep poultry or
maybe even a particular breed.
Tell us who and how along with your experiences here.
I look forward to hearing your replies.

My son Oliver always wanted ducks so we bought 2 tiny ducklings and
hid them in the guinea pig run and spare hutch! When OH came home,
he thought the guinea pigs were just very noisy! We then decided to
adopt a little pekin bantam who was being picked on by the others
at the local petting zoo, but Had to get a compainioon for her! We
went on from there. but I have been told I cannot buy anything else
with fur feathers or wings!

My local poultry has been a source of great knowledge for me - I'd
recommend anyone to join their nearest club and give support to
poultry keeping. I learnt so much - feeding, showing and all
poultry related subjects.

since then Amy has been the chief chicken looker afterer if we
are away!!!
I was actually scared of chickens, my mum wanted to get some-this
was about 10 years ago when i was 8 ish , so we had 4 sussex,
then 2 orps.
We let the orps hatch some babies and it went from there. Since
then we have have various birds. Mum Originally said no bantams,
quail, ducks, turkeys- weve had all of them!!

I've always wanted chickens. When I was a child my neighbour had
some, they often escaped out into the street, and I'd help to catch
them. I wasn't as brave when I was getting my first hens 18 months
ago, and was surprised at how big they were! It's the best thing
we've done, and I wouldn't be without them now.

My grandad always kept chickens and I enjoyed them so much. Mum and
Dad nevr let me have any chooks of my own, until I met Hubby when I
was 17. He came to live with us and brought his chickens with him
so parents couldn't say no!! Now 24 with 2 kids and about 200
chickens!!

My late great Uncle had a flock of Exchequer leghorns when I was
a child and had kept the same line going for many years before. He
had bought the original eggs from Robert Miller of Denny.
I helped as a boy on his farm and many years later when I got my
own farm he gave me a small flock of his birds to keep the strain
going.I still have them.
