RCOM Suro humidity calibration

Does anybody know whether or not the humidity on the Rcom Suro can be calibrated?
Also is it possible to use these incubators without the water pump, and just add water in small dishes?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Hi Ken.... wow!...... I've only joined about 5 mins ago and yours is the first 'thing' I've come across whilst nosing around!!

I have a Suro too and have found that I have a better hatch if , once i've disconnected the turning mechanism, I let the eggs pip before I increase the humidity...... will this help??
I recall in the instruction leaflet that you can manually set the humidity and temperature .
I know you can adjust the flow of the water but I have left mine as it is......... I reckon you CAN use these incubators with just water dishes (or, maybe damp paper towels on top of the eggs) but I wouldn't want to test it on valuable eggs.... All eggs lose moisture, naturally, during incubation and hens don't bother adding water so you might want to try putting a damp towel in, letting it dry out and wetting it again after the eggs have pipped.... as long as it remains around 45% humidity during incubation and 65% (Suro advice) after pipping you should be ok.

You don't say what the real problem is so I don't suppose i've been of much help.

You can perform a factory calibration which should be in your instructions, and to check it put a humidity guage inside, you can then adjust the humidity, but i found with my two they were spot on perfect after the factory calibration.

You don't have the use the APS but they are fantastic and take all the worry away!

happy hatching these incubators are the business.

thanks to both Laverne88 and Friendly hen for advice on the Suro. For Laverne, my real problem was that I think I am getting a false humidity reading and I wanted to check to see whether I am right or not. I suppose I could do a factory recalibration and hope that it is spot on, but it would be nice to be able to set my mind at rest. As for the APS, I agree that they are fantastic and take the worry out of the humidity problem, But is it possible that such a small amount of water will give 45% humidity? Mine only wets a small portion of the spongy fibre sheet and yet the humidity stays steady around that mark. True, living in Malta and being surrounded by sea might make a big difference as the days are always humid over here. more so in the summer months. I will have to do some tests checking the ambient humidity and also the humidity in the Suro to see if there is any discrepancy on a daily basis. I'll keep you informed as to what I find out

I've just hatched 28 out of 32 Serama in my new Suro, I left it on the factory setting just changing it for the hatch. This was the first time I'd used it. Yes, it is possible that such a small amount of water can keep the humidity at 45%. I had to force the APS a few times for 10 secs, that was usually first thing in the morning or after I'd opened the incubator to candle.
The humidity in the atmosphere will also affect an incubator. If you're unsure about your settings being accurate, get a hygrothermometer and see if it reads the same as the Suro within a small tolerance.
If you start doing things differently to the instructions by adding wet towels or pots of water you'll end up disappointed. Serama are not easy to hatch but I didn't have any worries and I'm really pleased with the Suro - it's certainly better than my RCom which has let me down several times.

My 'sponge' in my Suro only gets a damp patch about the size of a postage stamp..... the only trouble (and it wasn't really 'trouble' but could have been if I hadn't noticed it!) I've had with my Suro is that after I'd sterilized it and reassembled it I NEARLY didn't make sure the little pipe was inside the fold of the sponge... if I'd have left it the water would have dripped on the eggs instead. I don't suppose that would have made much of a difference to the hatch but it WAS a bit of a niggle.

I love the Suro.... it's the best incubator i've ever had....... and I've had about 6 different makes/models.
