As you can see from the title I live in Malta. For those of you who do not know where that is, it is a small island just 60km south of Sicily. Even though I have always been very interested in chickens, I have only just got around to actually starting to keep them seriously. I am semi-retired and work in the local English speaking newspaper as a librarian. I spent 18 years working in Libya and as that meant travelling backwards and forwards a lot, I never had the chance to get any poultry before now. At the moment I have four normal brown egg layers that I originally got just to have fresh eggs available, I also have one silkie cockerel, partridge colour about 8 months old that I hatched from an egg sent from the UK and three chicks in the brooder that I think are serama, wyandotte and light sussex. I am hoping to specialise primarily in serama but as they are few and far between in Malta, I am going to have to rely on finding someone willing to sell and send me some hatching eggs either from the UK or Europe.
I am looking forward to making a lot of new friends on this website and hopefully learning a lot more about chickens in general.
For now this is all , I just wanted to say hello
Ken

Hi Ken, its nice having someone from back home so interested in poultry, especially Silkies and Serama as I was until last year UK Club secretary to both clubs. Its a shame I didnt know of your interest before as I was visiting my sister in Zabbar on a couple of weeks ago and I could have brought you some eggs for you from reputable breeders here in the UK. Maybe when I come over again, (possibly November and if the birds are laying??) I will let you know one way or the other. Take care
