Hi one of my chickens has been laying weird pimply eggs. They are tiny little dots that are gathered over parts of the shell that can come away if scraped. I have read a small bit about excess calcium could it be this? though I don't know what to do about it if it is that! I'm also wondering are the eggs ok to eat?
If any one could help me resolve this problem I would really appreciate it.
thanks alot.

Hi primrosy, (nice name!)
The eggs are perfectly ok to eat hunny, the pimples are as you thought, calcium deposits and are harmless. There are several ways to improve egg shell quality, ACV in the drinking water is good, dilution rate of 15mls per litre of water as a maintainance dose, also codliver oil is excellant as it helps the bird utilise calcium better within her system and a good source of vitamin D.
As with us humans, all birds utilise vitamins and minerals at different rates according to their metabolic system, ie. what is ok amounts for one bird, might not be ok for another, so it's hardly surprising that even if you feed the exact same to all your birds, you often get one who will expel too much calcium and some who can't get enough of it. But ACV in the drinking water does help, and so does codliver oil. Just a good slosh on their feed twice a week will be plenty to have an effect. Hope this helps.
