Heya everyone,
Just for a bit of chat really- just wondered if any of you watched Lambing Live on BBC last week?

What did you think of it?

I managed to watch most of the first one and part of thursdays but missed the others due to our own lambing (and kidding!). Thought balance between info for general public and sheepkeepers was pretty good - always difficult to pitch a programme at a level to interest both

I agree, i heard lots of people who are in the farming community say it came across as patronising, but i believe the basic facts were aimed at people who didnt know anything about lambing etc.

I thought the family came across as soo soo lovely, especially the wife. It was brave of them to let their whole life be on tv for everyone to see and potentially criticise.

Can't wait til our sheep have lambs next month- i love watching/helping them!

That brought back memories of some years ago when the farmer where I stabled my horses had 500 ewes lambing. So we all mucked in (literally), helping in the lambing sheds. Busiest 10 days I've ever spent especially as my married daughter and I took orphan/weak lambs home to try and get started. At one stage I had 5 new born lambs in the kitchen in kitten breeding pens (I used to breed Abyssinian cats). Fortunately the kitchen was 24 ft long but it still got a bit crowded with a Great Dane and Collie trying to help. I had to get the Colostrum milk into them and teach them to bottle feed, then when they were thriving and sucking strongly they went back to the farm into a special area for the orphans/weaklings where they fed from bucket nipples and then another consignment came home with me.
It was hard work, very rewarding but also sad when some little ones didn't make it.

I loved it! I know nothing about farming, but a have a great urge/dream/desire whatever to run my own little b and b, but with land at the back for sheep, pigs and chickens. For meat, wool, eggs etc etc. I cant wait!!!
