Any comments regarding these feeders. Are they worth the money, do they cut down on wasted feed. Would you use one in preference to tube feeders or would you use a plastic or galvanised feeder instead ?

I've been using treadle feeders for 4 months, they're well worth the money and save any spillage so no waste to encourage rats. I like the look of the grandpas feeders, but as I know how well the treadles work, and the hens all know how to use them, will be sticking with these for the time being. The 15 ltr treadle is quite narrow, really surprised me when I first got them, but the hens all get to feed during the day anyway. I've just bought a 30 ltr treadle, and it's much wider and looks like at least 3-4 will be able to feed at the same time Smile

Where did you get your treadle feeders from? There are loads on the market and I'm not sure which one to try...

Sorry Kirsty, not been on for a while and only just noticed this.

I bought the 3 of them from Wells poultry. I've been really happy with them, and it was only
a week until the hens worked out how to use them.

Try Grandpa's Feeders. We're really happy with the ones we've got. They are dear but so is the feed we were losing to rats and crows. They come with a 12 month guarantee, and we don't have to fill them up every day, so we can go away for a couple of days and not bother the neighbour. We bought ours from www.grandpasfeeders.co.uk There are imitations about, I've seen one on-line and it looked awful. I know the bloke who sells them says 'Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery'.

Hi - we got ours from P&T Poultry some time ago and it's great. Some friends of ours have a Grandpa's and they are very pleased with it too. Ours holds 10kg of feed and the lid is quite secure. I check it's working every morning and top it up every 4 or 5 days. Worth every penny!
