Hi,
the daughter (bless her little cotton socks) informed me yesterday
that for christmas she wants Santa (she is only 8) to bring her an
incubator for christmas so she can hatch some of her own eggs from
our hens! So any suggestions on a nice simple (and preferably cheep
lol) incubator which is suitable for the job! And does any one have
any experience of fertilized eggs brough over the internet as was
contemplating buying some to add some variety to our flock which is
mainly goldline, warrens and Burdie our Marran cockerel (we also
have baldy our Marran chick - gender unknown - he is only 3 months
old).
Thanks Alex

I've never used an incubator, but the Brinsea Mini Eco 10 egg
incubator looks like a good starter one. It's £54.99, so a good
price to start off with. I think you'd be best to wait until Spring
before buying any hatching eggs as a lot of eggs won't be fertile
at this time of year.

Hi Alex.
I too would recommend Brinsea. Although I have not used a mini eco
it does look and sound good.
I have an Octagon 20 which I can highly recommend but I am not sure
if you will be wanting one this big. The R-com's come in the 20
size as well so again probably too big and the R-com 3 egg
incubator I feel is probably rather pointless especially as this
hobby is soo addictive! lol
The Novitals I don't think give quite good results.
Regards, Jamie.

You could always buy her a detemined broody hen, much cheaper than
an incubator

Cunning plan buying one might just work as we did have a broody hen
a while back but the others would nt leave her sit in peace and
when i tried moving her some where separate she got upset, so
buying one in may work coz we can put her somwhere separate to
start! Only prob not sure where to get my hand on a broody
tho!
thanks

If no luck with broodies try Rcom20 2009 model. They are about £200
to buy new but worth every penny. Auto turning, auto temperature
and auto humidity! what more could you possibly want! Perfect,
reliable and so simple to use and clean. I have 2 and they are a
godsend. My kids watch the chicks hatch through the perspex top and
it even sings a little song when the eggs are turning
too!!!
