I got a Second Prize for one of my photos - was too busy working to
prep and take Cilla the silkie so she wasn't there.
I came back with a couple of new tonics to try out on my girls
and 2 Pekin pullets from the sales pens
Was busy on the Cotswold Chickens stand so spoke to a lot of
people there. Was nice to see friends again + had a good chat
with Jamie and saw Karen but she was busy judging! Sure I saw
some others off here without realising.
I still want some Naked Necks and Brahmas

Amazing show and it was my first!!! Unfortunatly wern't aloud to
buy any birds as aparently i have to many. I bought some feeders
and drinkers and bought some new tonic to try it out. But the birds
their were truely amazing, especially the opingtons. Opened my eyes
to the standard that is expected of show birds. Looking forward to
next year, hopefully i will be able to show some of my lovely
orpingotns ! Spoke to jamie on the poultry talk
stand and thats it. Might of seen a few members without realising.
Still want some sebrights, tolouse geese and some cayuga ducks!
There was a few in the for sale pens but wern't aloud to buy :(
I will eventally get round to owning some but i have enough on
my hands at the moment, bring on next year!

Glad you all enjoyed the show so much. Really must try and go next
year. Meanwhile I enjoy seeing all the lovely poultry at the many
local agricultural shows we have here in North Yorkshire.

Dear poultry-lovers,
Are there any Youtube uploads where I can watch the chicken at the
National Show?
I'm too far to visit...
May I wish you all
A Happy, Healthy New Year!

this to the next step now, and i'm really keen to start entering

Have you taken a look at the Poultry Club of Great Britain website?
There's a whole section on showing and how to prepare for it.
Everything you ever wanted to know.

Can honestly say - I was a nervous wreck getting ready for my first
show - did not want to look silly in front of everyone else. It is
all in the preparation in the months before hand - make sure your
birds are fed a good quality feed and you don't want them Fat -
just fit! Don't show them as they are about to moult once they are
through their moult is a lovely time as the feathers are all new. A
good wash in a 'baby' shampoo a few days before hand - nice warm
water in the kitchen sink not outside it is too chilly. They dry
the birds as much as you can with a towel and then we use a hair
dryer - I also use kitchen roll to get as much off dampness off as
possible. Keep the haridryer moving all the time - you don't want
to burn the bird - if it is too hot they won't like it same if it
is too cold. Goes without saying they should be lice and mite free
- a judge has the right to pass over any birds that is carrying
passengers! Keep them in a cage or cat carrier with fresh shavings
in - keep changing the shavings until the show. Then on the day -
go to the show if it is a show where you pick up the pen numbers on
the day get there with plenty of time as there may be a queue....
PLEASE MAKE SURE you put the birds in the pen numbers (don't
mistake the class numbers for the pen numbers - i have done that
before) Get your birds out of their box take off any shavings or
bedding - a quick wipe of baby oil on their wattles and comb maybe
a wipe over their legs if they are a clean legged breed and then
into their cage. Do not give feed or water at this point - only
offer this once judging is over - it affects the birds shape and
also can be seen as an indication to the judge as to who owns what
- you want the cage literally unmarked and then there can be no
claim of cheating going on. Hope this helps... Take the leap and
have a go - you learn so much when you go - our first show we won
& we got hooked! BE WARNED!!!!
