Have just bought four pol hens.

One seems to be lethargic - The Amber Star.; She is eating and drinking ok though.

These are the first chickens we have bought, so not really sure if this is normal? could it be that she is nearly ready for laying? or do some prefer being on there own? The others seem fine, and are getting on ok.

Any advice please would be helpful

Thanks!

As long as she's eating and drinking OK, you don't need to worry. She's probably still recovering from being taken from surroundings and friends she knows, to somewhere she doesn't know.

Having said that, just check her to make sure she hasn't got mites. Part her feathers and look at her skin and also look at her vent (chicken equivalent of her bum) - not pleasant, but her vent is where they may well gather. It's perfectly normal for the vent to pulse, so don't let that worry you.

Red mites are the bane of every chicken keepers life, because if you don't deal with them, they can kill your chickens. You need to keep them under control and out of your chickens' lives.
