bought a 3 week old silkie chick sometime ago (end of july/august) it seems healthy and is happily living outside with 5 others, 2 silike crosses and 4 larger fowl but it is tiny its about 6 inches tall and isnt getting any bigger it eats well and is normal in behaviour but i thought it would be about 10in tall like others is it normal for some to be so tiny?
any ideas if not why it is so small?
also the silkies crosses dont lay eggs i think they are crossed with welsummers but that is from memory from what the lady told me when i got them i know the eggs arent really worth having but had heard they tasted nice so was looking forward to having some
thanks for any information you can give me

I keep bantam silkies amongst other birds and they have produced some small birds no more than six " tall they are purfectley formed and live quite happily with my other bantams i wouldnt however mix them with large fowl as they may well get picked on , silkies are not the strongest of breed!Regards eggs silkies lay when they feal like it in my experience and i never seem to get many before they go broody! which is what they are realy good at and is why game keepers crossed them with other bantams to make realy good rearing birds . I shouldnt worry about your birds as long as they appear healthy. Regards Tom
