I love these they are my most favourite birds in the world!! I had
a pair of red fronted kakariki's a few years back, they were
stunning, Im not keen on the butter cups and lutino's I like the
good old bottle green ones. But where have they all gone?? Can't
find these gorgeous birds anywhere! I love the male's displays with
the eye flaring and tapping his feet and the noise they make like
laughing!! Just love them. I had some yellow fronts too but not as
friendly as red fronts. Anyone keep Kakariki's??

Well I was not sure if I had heard of these before but doing a
Google search they look like very attractive birds!

Not the fanciest looking of birds I'll be honest but their
characters are just delightful. When our house is all
renovated I'd love an aviary with a few in. They are so friendly
and inquisative, I had my male at 5 years old, he was very old for
a kakariki as their normal lifespan is about 5 years. He'd been
kept in an aviary all his life but I hand tamed him in 3 weeks and
he would run about the house making lovely laughing sounds with his
girlfriend chasing after him. They like to run more than fly.

I agree, really sweet littlle birds. Much better natured than
cockatiels, easier to tame too. I had one years ago, she was a
lovely little thing, unlike the psycho cockatiel that replaced her

You're right, you don't see them for sale anymore, maybe they're on
the endangered list or something

Lol late reply. But yeah, I used to have a yellow fronted (excuse
me if that's an incorrect term) when I first had an aviary. Sure
enough, a week later, the bugger escaped. I felt awful that once an
aviary bird gets out...thats about it for them. Still in hope that
a little Parakeet is living the wild high life somewhere across
Buckinghamshire! ha.

Hey not necesarily!! In Carmarthen near to my home there is a flock
of Indian ringneck parakeets living wild. They have done for years
and were a result of a pair escaping from an aviary! LOL x x x x
