I've just watched Countryfile on the BBC iPlayer. They showed a "Chicken stands on the front plate to open the feeder" type of feeder. It looks to be just what I want
Does anyone know the name of them, or where I can get hold of one?

They're called Treadle Chicken Feeders. If you put that term into your search engine, lots of them come up at various prices and sizes.

Yes, I saw the program too. They are called Grandpa's Feeders, we got a couple when we realised how much we were feeding the rats and crows. I didn't think it would work at first, but all that is a thing of the past now because these feeders keep them out. There is a website www.grandpasfeeders.co.uk and you can order on-line, or on the phone, or send a cheque. The bloke running it is really helpful, you can ring him up or email if you have a problem. My first feeder arrived damaged, I rang him and told him, and he sent a replacement the next day-I did have to send the damaged one back, though he paid the postage. There is also a 12 month guarantee.
