Hi to all, just signed up to the site and seems friendly and
helpful(he says before the question) I have 4 hybrid hens in my
garden and had them since end of feb, they have shown signs of worms
in faeces and i have managed to get hold of some flubenvet from the
internet in powder form(its a shame you cant seem to find small
bags of premixed feed would be so much easier!). My question is i
want to start them off tomorrow but have just started a new sack of
layers pellets and cant see how mixing the mix with pellets is
going to work, surely will just get left as dust and not
eaten?
any advice gladly received........
thanks

Hello snoopy,
Welcome to Poultry Talk! If you mix a little olive oil with the
feed it will stick the powder to the pellets.
Hope that helps :-)

Thanks for you helpful comments chicken lady and the caretaker....I
managed to mix up pellets with the flubenvet and some olive oil
yesterday and they seem to be eating it ok, i am assuming its best
not to give them treats like corn etc this week whilst they are
having their meds? anything else i should be doing /keeping an eye
on while they are on it? Thanks again. ps friends and family think
im a little barmy im sure since ive had my hens they have become my
priority:-)!!

I use to use Flubenvent but found it was such a hassle feeding it
over a 7 day period. I find that Panucure 2.5% sheep is very
effective. You only have to give it to them through a seringe once.
If you go to buy it though don't tell them its for chickens but for
sheep and they will sell it to you. Alot of my breeder pals use
this.

Panacur 2.5% is not licenced for use with chickens unless under a
vets guidance which is why not many people use it.
If used, it must be repeated 7-10 days later and the manufacturers
advise a 7 day egg withdrawl period and 7 day delay before
slaughter for meat.
If you buy a wormer for sheep and give it to chickens you run the
risk of under or overdosing as there will be no dosage guidelines
with the product. Although dosage guidelines are published.
Marriages make a pellet feed with flubenvet added. Very easy to
feed this for 7 days instead of the usual pellet and no egg
withdrawl period.

yes i tried to find marriages pellets with flubenvet as had seen it
on the internet but could only find 20kg bags and that would feed
my 4 hens for more like 7 weeks than 7 days and so had to resort to
mixing although it cost me the same as the sack of pellets would
cost, there is definitely a market for 5 or 10kg bags as there are 4
places locally i can buy feed but they do not supply them.

If you don't mind me plugging, we sell 10kg, 5kg and 2kg buckets in
Northamptonshire.
Alternatively you could club together with other chicken friends
and share a bag?
